Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday asked the Telangana government not to proceed with the demolition of the Secretariat buildings until further orders.

Admitting a petition filed by Congress MLA T. Jeevan Reddy seeking orders to stop demolition of the Secretariat in the name of Vaastu, the court asked the government to submit reasons before going ahead with its plans. The petitioner stated that the government was planning to demolish the Secretariat only because of Vaastu reasons which is not scientific and going to burden the exchequer to the tune of hundreds of crores.

However, the advocate general on behalf of the government told the court that the construction of a new Secretariat was planned only to facilitate administrative convenience and not for vaastu reasons as alleged by the petitioner.

The court asked the government to file its counter with all the details by 10th of this month for further hearing in the case.
