HC rules in government's favour, allows college inspections

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Friday allowed the Telangana government to conduct vigilance checks among private Junior colleges and other educational institutions in the state.

The government had been conducting surprise inspections on some of these institutions in the past. The Junior colleges JAC had not only expressed their objection to this but also threatened to not allow the government to conduct the TET and EAMCET examinations on May 1 and 2 in their premises.

The government was forced to reschedule both these exams to a later date.

When a group of colleges appealed to the High Court against the periodic checks of the government, a single bench judge had ruled in their favour. The government then appealed to a division bench.

They petitioned the court that it was necessary to conduct checks in order to monitor the quality of education in the institutes as many of them did not even have the mandatory labs as part of their infrastructure. Many were even functioning without sufficient lecturers, they informed the court.

The division bench on Friday passed judgement in the government's favour, allowing it to conduct vigilance checks on colleges.
