HC reserves order on Dharmana's petition to April 29

Arguments over petition filed by Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao challenging the CBI prosecution against him in the Vanpic case were completed in the High Court on Thursday.

The court verdict was adjourned to April 29. CBI informed the court that Dharmana had misused the power as revenue minister in the Vanpic case and he was causing an obstacle for speedy investigation. Though he had tendered his resignation, it was not approved, CBI said and added that the prosecution did not require government permission as his portfolio has been changed.

When the CBI charged that some people were shielding Dharmana, Justice Seshasayana Reddy objected to it and asked the CBI not to raise such issues in the court.  However, the counsel of minister Dharnama rejected the CBI argument and said though his portfolio was changed, he has been continuing as Minister.

The counsel further said the court had closed the trial on the CBI memo without hearing arguments from minister side. As a result, Dharmana had lost his right provided by the constitution.
