HC Directs Andhra Pradesh Govt. to Frame Guidelines for Local Status in College Admissions

The petition was filed by M Priyadarshini who rued that the authorities are not considering her as a local candidate for Andhra University area for admission.

Hyderabad: Dealing with a writ petition filed by an MBBS seat aspirant, the division bench directed the Andhra Pradesh government and its higher education department to frame guidelines for ‘local status’ to facilitate admission process smoothly.

The petition was filed by M Priyadarshini who rued that the authorities are not considering her as a local candidate for Andhra University area for admission. The petitioner’s counsel B Sasibhushan Rao said,”Amended Presidential Order stipulated that migrants to Andhra Pradesh from Telnagana between June 2, 2014 to June 2, 2017 must be treated as locals for admissions into educational institutions.”

The bench when asked the counsel for the NTR University the counsel responded saying that the Andhra Pradesh government didn’t give any specific guidelines.
