Vijay Rupani being congratulated on being re-elected CM of Gujarat

Vijay Rupani will continue as the Chief Minister of Gujarat and Nitin Patel as his deputy. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who oversaw the meeting of the party's newly-elected MLAs at Gandhinagar on Friday, announced that both were elected unanimously. Jaitley said the date for the swearing-in will be announced separately.

Rupani, seen close to BJP President Amit Shah, won a second term as the Chief Minister after the BJP got 99 out of 182 seats in the Assembly elections.

BJP finally scores a ‘century’

The BJP could finally hit a century when Independent MLA Ratansinh Rathod from Lunawada has offered support. Ratansinh Rathod wrote to Gujarat Governor O P Kohli declaring his support to the BJP and also came to BJP headquarters to participate in the meeting of its newly elected MLAs to elect their leader. Rathod is one of the two independent MLAs who have won in the recently concluded assembly polls.

The BJP had registered a sixth straight Assembly poll win in the key western state on December 18, winning 99 seats in the 182-member House. Though the Congress performed its best in many years, winning 77 seats, it could not unseat the BJP.
