Google Celebrates Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar’s 107th Birth Anniversary With Doodle
On the 107th birth anniversary of legendary India-origin astro-physicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, Google has dedicated a doodle in his honour on its home page on Thursday. Chandrasekhar was born on October 19, 1910 in Lahore, Pakistan. He was a child prodigy and continued this streak all through his life. He won the Nobel Prize in 1983 in Physics for his contribution to the theory of the evolution of stars.
"Today's Doodle illustrates one of the most important of S. Chandrasekhar's contributions to our understanding of stars and their evolution: The Chandrasekhar limit. The limit explains that when a star's mass is lighter than 1.4 times that of the sun, it eventually collapses into a denser stage called a "white dwarf." When heavier than 1.4, a white dwarf can continue to collapse and condense, evolving into a black hole or a supernova explosion," Google said on the Doodle.
Till the age of 12, he was home tutored and studied at the Presidency College in Madras. He later studied at the University of Cambridge. Interestingly, Chandrasekhar is the nephew of Nobel Prize winner physicist CV Raman.We at Sakshipost to salute to the memory of this legendary astro-physicist!!
