GHMC to hike parking fee at multi-storey lots to increase revenues

Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is all set to increase the parking charges at multi-storey parking lots in the city to increase its revenues. An announcement in this connection will come from the GHMC soon. The motorists will now end up paying more once the revised rates come into force.

GHMC chief B. Janardhan Reddy said the body will increase fees at multi-storey parking lots. GHMC is currently earning a meager Rs. 3 crore per year from 53 parking yards and now we are decided to increase our income from multi-storied parking lots, play grounds and community halls in the city, he said.

Currently the parking fees is Rs.20 per hour. But the contractors are making lot of money by charging Rs. 30-70 per hour at shopping malls which are supposed to provide for free. The commissioner said the contract system will be changed after conducting a detailed survey to increase the GHMC revenues from parking.

GHMC is also planning to raise its income from 521 playgrounds, nice badminton courts, nine big sports complexes in the city that are owned by the civic body.
