GHMC Contract Driver Beats Up Youths By Stripping Them Naked, Govt Orders Action

Hyderabad: A contract driver working with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) allegedly assaulted two daily wage labourers by stripping them naked at Transport office, Khairthabad.

The photos of the incident went viral on social media on Saturday prompting the Telangana government to take action against the perpetrator. The accused, who is identified as Iqbal, allegedly attacked the youth after suspecting them of stealing diesel. The transport office, which is located adjacent to the flyover at Khairatabad, houses numerous vehicles that are used for dumping daily waste from the city to dumpyard at Jawaharnagar. There were several allegations that the hundreds of litres of diesel are being diverted to the black market daily.

Labour unions allege that Iqbal was involved in diverting the diesel on a daily basis. Even though, the CTO was apprised of the situation there was no action taken against driver Iqbal, the unions said. Meanwhile, the Telangana government directed the GHMC commissioner to submit a report over the irregularities that were taking place at transport office.
