GHMC has failed in its promise of eliminating open dumping of garbage

Hyderabad: A study conducted by the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) says that GHMC has failed in its promise of eliminating open dumping of garbage formally called Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVP).

Residents rue that the menace is back and door-to-door garbage collection has become irregular. Places like Charminar, Alwal, Patancheruvu, etc. have hit a hurdle as there is a shortage of staff and the existent auto-trolleys cannot go through the narrow lanes in place like Charminar.

GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said that as it is difficult for a mid-sized garbage truck to move in lanes that are narrow, they are planning to sending autos or rickshaws to collect the garbage from these areas

Some residents also said that GHMC has fixed Rs 50 per month for the auto tipper drivers but later they are demanding Rs 300 to 500 per month to collect garbage, adding that they cannot afford it.
