Furore over Murali Mohan's sexist remarks in LS

TDP MP Murali Mohan''s "sexist" remarks led to a protest by women MPs, who termed the statement as “irresponsible”.

During a debate on atrocities on women and children in the Lok Sabha, the actor-turned-politician created a flutter saying women should dress in a dignified manner.

The women members disrupted the proceedings in Parliament demanding the MP to leave the house.

While several women MPs demanded that the remarks be expunged, others asked the house that he be asked to leave the House. "If he chooses to use such street language, clearly he should be removed from the House," said one of the women MPs in the house.

The Speaker tried to pacify them but failed. Later, Murali Mohan’s remarks were expunged from the records.

Supporting the women MPs, Rajya Sabha member V Hanumanth Rao sarcastically said Murali Mohan should have advised his co-actress how they should dress while he was acting in films.

Taking strong exception to his comments, several social activists also lashed out at the TDP MP questioning him if his statement is true, why would a six-year-old get raped?.

Murali Mohan has not stopped at it and he further angered the agitated women MPs.

He landed himself in trouble by saying "as per our culture, it is better to dress in a dignified manner.... stop modern dresses."
