Four policemen suspended in passport case

Hyderabad: The city police on Thursday suspended four policemen in connection with the case of illegal migrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar obtaining Indian passports fraudulently.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy suspended Assistant Sub-Inspector Tajammul Ghori, head constable S H Qadri, Constable Basheer Ahmed (arrested) of special branch and Constable Mohd Ayoob attached to Chandrayangutta police station, a statement from police said.

They were suspended on charges of gross negligence of duty by indulging in corrupt activities and endangering the safety of the nation, it said.

They were also directed not to leave the headquarters without obtaining permission of the additional commissioner of police of special branch.

On August 14, Mohammed Nasir, a Pakistani national with alleged links with the banned terror organisations HuJI and Indian Mujahideen (IM), was arrested here along with two Bangladeshis and one Myanmar national.

Two local agents -- Sohail Parvez Khan and Masood Ali Khan -- were also arrested. Nasir, Sohail and Massod arranged Indian passports for the illegal immigrants by submitting fake ID cards, police said.

On August 17, Basheer Ahmed, a constable with special branch and home guard S K Saleem were arrested along with Ashan Zia Ansari, a passport agent.
