Four Maoists surrender in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: After being counselled by elders in their families and police, four Maoists involved in various offences, including attack on government coffee godown, On Tuesday, surrendered before police in Vizag.

V Chinnam Naidu alias Sannam Naidu and P Somaraju, dalam members of Galoikonda and Koraukonda area committees respectively, surrendered on Tuesday, District Superintendent of Police (Rural) Koya Praveen said. Naidu, a member of the outlawed movement since 2005 who was carrying a cash reward of Rs one lakh on his head, was involved in six offences including blast on Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation (APFDC) coffee godown and at a cell tower in agency area, he said.

Somaraju, who joined the Naxal movement in 2010, was also involved in various offences, including murder of a panchayat vice president in 2010. He used to supply materials to Maoists and passed them information about police movements in the area, Praveen said.

Besides, the other two militia members - P Chanti and P Rambabu - who laid down their arms worked as informers and were involved in blast on APFDC coffee godown, and blocking vehicular movement by placing trees on roads.

They would be rehabilitated as per the government policy, he added.
