Forged documents were used to misuse Shaadi Mubarak scheme

Hyderabad: The details related to the Shaadi Mubarak scheme seems to be getting murkier by the day. Police reports reveal a nexus between government employees, citizen services institutions and individuals. Mohammad Taharuddin, senior assistant in the Minorities Welfare department was arrested by the ACB in connection with the scheme recently.

In a press meet convened by the Rangareddy ACB on Friday, DSP Prabhakar revealed what the police had discovered on probing into the details of Sultana Begum, one of the applicants to the scheme from Saroornagar. He stated that when they called up the phone number that was indicated on the application form, the respondent denied that they had applied for the Shaadi Mubarak scheme. The police then approached the Mee Seva centre through which the petition had been filed and collected all the relevant documents that had been submitted along with the application form.

After much effort, the police were able to trace Sultana to Masab tank area, from the address details available on the PAN card. The police discovered that Sultana Begum was married in 2013 and that she had never applied for the Shaadi Mubarak scheme. Further investigations revealed that forged documents were created in the name of Sultana Begum and application for the scheme was filed from the Mee Seva centre.

The filed application was taken up for verification and processing by Mohammad Taharuddin, a senior assistant at the Minorities Welfare department. Taharuddin filed a false report that he had visited Sultana Begum's residence and made verifications. The police investigated the details and arrested Taharuddin under section 13(1) D, criminal misconduct and IPC section 471.

An amount of Rs. 51,000 was deposited in the name of Sultana Begum in Indian Bank. The police are presently investigating how the funds were moved out of the account and who were behind it.
