Five, including temple priests, held for Krishna Veni suicide

Five people, including two temple priests, were arrested in the Temple Executive Officer S Krishna Veni suicide case and taken to Hyderabad.

The Hyderabad police registered a case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (abetment of suicide) on the basis of the suicide note and statements of her relatives.

Those arrested are Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Jaganadha Swami temple and prominent businessman Ranga Bala Krishna, Member M Satya Narayana, temple employee S Venu, and temple priests R Papachari and M Manikanta.
Krishna Veni had complained to the Guntur police three months ago that those arrested had been harassing as well as intimidating her using vulgar language and that the local police were passive. Upset at their allegedly increasingly obscene behavior, Krishna Veni committed suicide in her Hyderabad apartment on October 1.
In her suicide note, she gave a vivid account of her woes and the alleged despotic behaviour of the accused. The suicide of the honest and young government officer had caused a furore and triggered a demand for strict punishment of the guilty. It has also been alleged that those arrested enjoy political protection.
