Hyderabad: With the launch of Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler Unlimited, Jeep has finally entered the Indian market. For now, both the models introduced in India as CBU (Completely Built Up) units. The local assembly of the same will start from 2017.
The Grand Cherokee is a premium SUV and flagship product of the Jeep brand in India with three trims: Limited, Summit, and the SRT. The Limited and Summit are powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine rated at 240 BHP and 570 Nm of torque. The company promises a fuel economy figure of 12.8 km/l. The SRT comes with a 6.4-litre Hemi V8 petrol engine that churns out 470 BHP and 624 Nm while being mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Prices (ex-showroom, Delhi) of the Jeep Grand Cherokee in India:
• Limited: Rs. 93.64 lakh
• Summit: Rs. 1.03 crore
• SRT: Rs. 1.12 crore
The Wrangler, the second model by Jeep in India, is available only in a 4-door ‘Unlimited’ variant powered by a 2.8-litre CRD turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 197 BHP @ 3,600 rpm and 460 Nm @ 1,600-2,000 rpm of torque. and priced at Rs. 71.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Wrangler Unlimited fuel economy rate will be 12.1 km/l.
