Film stars to stage sit-in protest over new service tax

Good news for those who want to see several heroes and heroines of Tolllywood all at once. Celebrities from Telugu cine world will stage a sit-in  protest at the Film Chamber in Hyderabad.

Demanding the government to roll back the new service tax regime, the film stars setting aside their differences on other matters will hold a protest on January 7.

After the protest, they would hand over a memorandum to Union Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi to reduce the tax to below five per cent.

Addressing a press conference, Film Chamber president Tammareddy Bharadwaja said that same type of protests would be observed in all the four southern states.

The Central government had introduced the new tax regime which came in to effect from July 01. The actors have to pay 12 per cent service tax along with 30 per cent income tax.
