Fadnavis Govt wins trust vote

The maiden BJP government in Maharashtra passed its first two tests effortlessly.

It got its speaker nominee elected unopposed and managed to win the trust vote effortlessly.

The party managed to get its nominee for the speaker's post - Haribhau Bagde - elected unopposed. Both the Shiv Sena and the Congress nominees withdrew from the contest following request by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, thus paving way for the unanimous election of Bagde.

As for the trust vote, it went on predictable lines, with Sharad Pawar's NCP extending its support. The BJP government won by voice vote. However, this was not without its drama. The Shiv Sena pressed for a division, which was rejected by the speaker. The Shiv Sena MLAs trooped into the well to register their protest.

The Shiv Sena-BJP crosshairs in the house revealed the confusion in Shiv Sena ranks. The party had agreed for the election of BJP nominee for the speaker and opposed the BJP on trust vote.
Meanwhile Eknath Shinde of the Shivsena has been elected leader of Opposition.
