Vikarabad: An engineering student was thrashed by police and an agriculture officer after he lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) stating they demanded a bribe.

The incident occurred in Erravelli village on Tuesday. The student, Kannareddy, had approached Vikarabad agriculture officer Neeraja for setting up a fertilizer shop in his village Erravelli.

For issuing the license, Neeraja had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000. Subsequently, Kannareddy lodged a complaint with the ACB officials over the matter. The ACB officials asked Kannareddy to produce evidence. So Kannareddy went to Neeraja's office to gather details and documents for the permission he sought.

Meanwhile, Neeraja got information that Kannareddy had approached the ACB. The agriculture officer along with her husband allegedly attacked Kannareddy. Later, she also called the Mominpet police and complained over the issue. Without hearing the version of Kannareddy, Mominpet sub-inspector Raju too allegedly thrashed the victim leaving him severely injured. He is stated to be in critical condition with one of his kidneys getting damaged.

A case has been registered against SI Raju and Neeraja under various Sections of the IPC. Kannareddy's family members demanded stern action against the sub-inspector and agriculture officer Neeraja for torturing Kannareddy.
