EFLU issues notices to students for 'unrest' on campus

Hyderabad: The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), a central institution located in Hyderabad, has issued a show-cause notice to a group of students asking why disciplinary action should not be taken against them for allegedly causing unrest on the campus.

Prakash Kona, professor of English literature at EFLU, said the notice related to the incidents of October 15. The situation went out of control on October 15. The students were demanding that EFLU should conduct elections. They shouted slogans against the administration and the Vice Chancellor, Kona told media.

The administration needed some time to work out the modalities of student elections, he said. EFLU had earlier issued notice to two student representatives for serving chicken in the hostel on October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti) and another student for posting objectionable comments on Facebook about the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign held in the campus on the same day.

We have closed these issues for which notices were served after we received replies from the students, the VC said. The agitation on October 15 was not related to the earlier notices, Kona said.
