Efforts on to rescue over 300 AP residents stranded in Nepal

Hyderabad: As many as 380 residents of Andhra Pradesh are reported to be stranded in Nepal following the earthquake even as 47 of them have been flown to New Delhi, the state government said on Sunday.

Nearly 380 people from AP are reported to be stranded in Nepal following the earthquake. About 47 people (28 from Hyderabad and 19 from Vijayawada) were brought to New Delhi last night in three IAF flights which rescued 400 Indians from the neighbouring country, an official release said in Hyderabad.

The state government's control room, set up at AP Bhavan in New Delhi in view of the Nepal earthquake, assisted 33 references last night, it said adding that it has made all arrangements to provide shelter, food and assistance to the people of the state rescued from the Himalayan country.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has instructed Minister of State Y S Chowdary and AP Special Representative in Delhi K Ramamohan Rao to ensure that people from the state are put on flights immediately, based on their destination.

The AP Bhavan officials are coordinating with the Nepal Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs, India. The others rescued from Nepal will be put on flights to their respective destinations today, the release said.
