12 Days Period Leave For Women
Kolkata: With the Maternity Benefit Amendment Act increasing the duration of paid maternity leaves available for women employees from the existing 12 weeks to 26 weeks, many companies are now coming out with their own policies for working women to support and encourage them to work.
As part of this, a Kolkata-based digital media company-FlyMyBiz has introduced the concept of "period leave" as a New Year gift to all its women employees in 2019, according to a report in an English daily.
So, apart from their regular holidays, female employees will get twelve days additional days off in a year, which they can avail when they have periods (menstruation).
FlyMyBiz founder-CEO Samya Datta said that the women can avail a day's leave every month when they have periods. Speaking modestly about it, he said that the company wasn't doing a great favour to anyone. This was done because many women endure suffering during this phase and they can’t express themselves as it is still a social taboo.
We just want to make it easy for them and make them comfortable at the workplace, he said. He also explained that they were not the first in the country to do so. Two Mumbai based companies have already started this initiative, but they are the first in Kolkota to do so, he claimed.
