Mahbubabad: Nearly 150 DWCRA women destroyed belt shops at Muthyalamma Gudem of Mahbubabad district on Tuesday. Five litres of gudumba (country liquor), 70 beer bottles and 30 whisky bottles were gutted.
The women resorted to surprise attacks on liquor shops as they continued to run despite their ultimatum to owners to close them by February 25. One of the DWCRA members said, "We warned them to stop selling liquor by February 25. And they continued so we had to take action."
Women told the officials that the state government cheated by giving out ‘fake declaration’ that the district is free of liquor sale
After receiving information the excise department rushed to the village to prevent women from further destruction. The officials had to request the women to give back the remaining bottles they seized.
Justifying their act, women told the officials that the state government cheated by giving out ‘fake declaration’ that the district is free of liquor sale.
Women rued that they toil in the fields entire day and earn meager Rs150-300, and their hard-earned money is taken away by their respective men to buy liquor.
