Hyderabad: The Joint Action Committee for Social Justice (JAC) of University of Hyderabad on Sunday submitted a letter to one-member inquiry commission constituted by the HRD ministry to find out the reasons for the death of research scholar Rohith Vemula.

“The report of the inquiry commission was due to be released on August 1. We want to know the status of the inquiry and of the report,“ reads the letter.

The HRD ministry appointed retired judge Justice Ashok Kumar Roopanwal to inquire the details which led to Rohith’s death and was supposed to submit his report on August 1. However, Roopanwal has not submitted the report so far.

Under the probe held in March for three days the commission took depositions from various sources, teaching and non teaching staff, chief proctor, chief warden, deans and representatives of students’ union including vice chancellor Appa Rao Podile, former acting VC M Periasamy.
