Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao had a tough time answering media queries on the illegal constructions in the Krishna river flood plains. On Wednesday, he was pointedly asked by the media as to what steps he would take against the illegal constructions in the flood plains. The question was significant as only a day before, the AP High Court had issued notices to 57 persons, including Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for unauthorised constructions in the flood plains. Chandrababu's current residence in AP is built on the flood plains.

A non-plussed Devineni Uma tried to wriggle out by saying that the matter was sub-judice and he would not comment on it. But, he was reminded that he had in the past served notices to the illegal constructions in the flood plains. The mediapersons also reminded him that on December 31, 2014, he had surveyed the flood plains in a boat and assured that he would take action against those unauthorised constructions. On January 1, 2015, Chandrababu too had told that he would not leave any illegal construction. But, now Chandrababu himself stays in an illegal construction built by the Lingamaneni Estates.

When this was pointed out, the minister abruptly ended his presser and left the place in a huff.
