Mumbai: In the wake of Centre's sudden move to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 bills and subsequent problems faced by public, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan on Satuday said people should ignore the short term hardships and do what is right for the country.

I do not have money lying with me so I was not affected by the move at all. Fortunately, I pay all my taxes, and thus I remain unaffected, Aamir said at the song launch of film Dangal here.

The upcoming sports drama is based on the life of Haryana wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, played by Aamir.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 announced that high denomination notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 will no longer be legal tender to fight against black money and corruption.

Ever since the announcement was made, people have been rushing to banks and ATMs to procure Rs 100 and new currency notes, while woes is compounding each day with cash running dry in ATMs and long queues.
