Demolition Drive Continues With Same Vigor On 4th Day, 612 Unauthorized Structures Razed

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner on Thursday said that 612 illegal structures so far including 160 on the fourth day have been demolished as part of the ongoing demolition drive. The demolition drive taken up by GHMC after the recent heavy rains, continued for the fourth day. About 43 housing colonies are reported to have come up in 17 tanks in the twin cities.

The Commissioner held a review meeting with the town planning officials via teleconference. He ordered the officials to remove constructions, which are beyond buffer zone. "Illegal structures encroaching tanks should be dismantled immediately. So far 492 unauthorized structures were razed to the ground during the past four days."

MIM MLA Confronts with Officials

During the fourdays, first time an MLA opposed the demolition works in the city. MIM Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin confronted with GHMC officials, when they reached to ToliChowki to demolish an illegal five-storeyed building. The heated argument created a tense situation for sometime, but the officials didn't yield to the pressure. Irritated over this, Kausar left the place.

Breather for Victims of Demolition

High Court on Thursday ordered GHMC officials that without prior notice, demolition works can't be taken up. Dharani Welfare Association in Nizampet filed a lunch motion petition in the High Court complaining that without any notice, GHMC officials were demolishing their structures. High Court adjourned the hearing to October 13.

The Roads and Buildings Department has prepared a proposal seeking Rs866 crore for repairing 1,170km roads in the State.

Meanwhile, Roads and Buildings Department has prepared an estimation on restoring roads in the city and districts. The department will send a proposal seeking Rs866 crore for repairing 1,170km roads in the State. Telangana Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageshwara Rao held a review meeting on Wednesday and ordered the officials to submit the proposal immediately.
