Delhi High Court Seeks Police Report On Mother’s Plea In Missing JNU Student’s Case

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the Delhi Police to file status report on the plea of the mother of the Jawaharlal Nehru University's missing student Najeeb Ahmed that he be presented by the police and the city government before the court.

A division bench of Justice G.S. Sistani and Justice Vinod Goel asked the police and the Delhi government to file their responses on the habeas corpus plea of Ahmed's mother, Fatima Nafees.

On the basis of the records of the investigation carried out so far, Ahmed’s mother sought criminal prosecution against persons involved in the alleged assault

Ahmed (27), a first year M.Sc. student, went missing from his JNU hostel on the night of October 14-15, allegedly after an altercation with the members of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) students wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

On the basis of the records of the investigation carried out so far, Ahmed's mother sought criminal prosecution against persons involved in the alleged assault.

Fatima Nafees also sought setting up of a court-appointed Special Investigation Team of officers from outside Delhi to take over the probe from Crime Branch of the Delhi Police.

The Delhi police have already hiked to Rs 5 lakh the reward for any information about Ahmed.
