Delhi govt. promises job to Rohith Vemula's brother

New Delhi: The Delhi government on Wednesday said that it would give a job to the brother of research scholar Rohith Vemula of Hyderabad University who committed suicide last month.

"Delhi Government will give an appropriate job to late Rohith Vemula's brother depending on as and when he applies for the same," a government statement said.

Earlier in the day, Rohith's mother, Radhika met Kejriwal along with her younger son Raja, and told him that since Rohith's fellowship has been stopped, they had no source of income, sources said.

Kejriwal had Tuesday joined a protest in support of Rohith where he accused the Centre of waging a war against students and voiced his support for 'Rohith Act', a law proposed by agitating students against discrimination in universities. Addressing the protesters, Radhika had attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking, "what action did you take against your minister who had called my son anti-national? Rohith's body was found hanging in a hostel room on Hyderabad University campus on January 17."

Research scholar Rohith Vemula committed suicide on January 17 after he and four other Dalit students were suspended in Hyderabad University following an alleged clash with a leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh. The suicide triggered in different parts of the country.
