Hyderabad: The Telangana Degree and PG Colleges managements boycotted the first year second semester examinations, which were to commence from Wednesday.

The action was taken up after the government failed to increase the tuition fees despite the colleges maintenance costs doubled. A meeting was conducted in this regard on Tuesday by the colleges union. The decision has left over 20,000 students’ fate uncertain.

"Since last five years, the tuition fees for undergraduate courses remained the same. The government said it would amend changes from the 2017-18 academic year, but it hasn't done anything so far," said Laxma Reddy, member of Telangana Private Degree and Post-Graduate College Managements Association. However, TSCHE chairman Papi Reddy remained unfazed and asserted that government has no plans of enhancing the tuition fee.

Doubts were also raised about the online admission process. "Applications of students who sought to avail of the fee reimbursement scheme last year have not been uploaded as yet. Due to this, the government has not reimbursed a single rupee towards admissions sought under DOST (Degree Online Service Telangana) during the 2016-17 academic year," Laxma added.
