Deadlock To Continue In Krishna Water Sharing Between AP, Telangana

AP is offering 211 TMC to Telangana while the latter wants a bigger share.

Hyderabad: With the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal headed by Brijesh Kumar giving its verdict on Wednesday declaring the sharing of surplus water will be only between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the deadlock in the prolonged battle between the two Telugu states appears to have hit yet another roadblock.

The Tribunal confirmed the allotment made in 2013 when Andhra Pradesh was not bifurcated. After the formation of Telangana, the state government approached the Tribunal seeking a revision of sharing of the Krishna waters between four states instead of the earlier three states.

The Krishna water was allotted to Maharashtra (585 TMC), Karnataka (734 TMC) and the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh (811 TMC) and the newly formed Telangana would get its share from the share of AP.

However, the Telangana government has sought a reallocation of the water between all the four riparian states as the state was not in existence at the time of allocation in 2013. The neighboring AP is offering 211 TMC to Telangana while the latter wants a larger share.

The Centre is also not keen on intervening in the dispute and left the matter to both the Telugu states.

A further hearing in the case is adjourned to December 14 before which all the parties are directed to file their counters and objections.

However, AP government is planning to contest the decision in Supreme Court while Telangana is working on its future course of action.
