Vijayawada: One person was killed in a daylight murder in Vijayawada, while his mother who is critically injured is battling for life at a hospital.

The murderers have been identified as one Shiva and his friend. They attacked the victims when the bike slowed down in the busy Kedareshwarapet in city at 1.05pm and stabbed Padmavathi and her son Narendra with a knife used for cutting coconuts.

Onlookers shifted the victims to a hospital where Narendra died undergoing treatment while mother is battling for life in a critical condition. After stabbing them indiscriminately, the miscreants fled on a bike. Though the entire incident was captured on CCTV, police are unable to identify the accused. They said a manhunt is on to nab the accused.

Police said an extra-marital relation between the woman and Shiva could be the reason for the attack. They were in a relationship for sometime, but fell out recently. The accused wanted to kill her son to get rid of the obstacle between them.

According to sources, accused Shiva, a resident of Chittinagar, surrendered before police at Satyanarayanapuram police station admitting to have committed the offence. Investigation is on.

Such a ghastly incident was never witnessed in the city in the past several years after the gangsters of the old days were completely contained in the early 2000s. However, in a similar incident in the same spot, a woman was attacked by her husband injuring her critically but she survived.
