Danam Goes Back on Plans to Join TRS

Hyderabad: Amidst huge speculation about his defection into the ruling TRS, the city Congress president Danam Nagender on Friday clarified that he never wanted to leave his party.Nagender is reported to have met his former party chief and present TRS leader D. Srinivas as a prelude to his much-anticipated party defection this morning. The issue reached a flashpoint several times before, but somehow could not materialize. Entire media was abuzz with Nagender's switching of party color this morning and he reportedly said he would announce his decision on Monday.

However, senior leader Shabbir Ali intervened and had a prolonged meeting with his party colleague at his house. He also reportedly arranged a talk with the AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh over the phone and finally Danam is said to have dropped the idea of leaving the party.

After the meeting, Danam said he is a 100 percent Congress man and will never think of leaving the party. When media people questioned him about his parleys with TRS leader D. Srinivas, he retorted saying, "Do you have any proof that I met him?"

Shabbir said if Danam quits Congress, party workers will commit suicide. He is the backbone of the party in Hyderabad and his contribution is there in every activity, he added. All rumors about his changing party were circulated by some vested interests only to destabilize him and the party, Shabbir said.
