Cyberabad cops hold meetings ahead of Ganesh festival, Bakrid

Hyderabad: Cyberabad police commissioner C V Anand held separate meetings with representatives of Hindu and Muslim communities and informed them that police would be taking strict measures to prohibit the sale and slaughter of cows.

According to an official release, the police also warned against citizens taking the law into their own hands to check transportation or sale of cows or calves.
After 33 years, Ganesh festival and Bakrid would be coinciding this year. While the Ganesh festival starts on September 17 and concludes on September 27, the Bakrid falls on September 24.

The commissioner informed that the Director General of Police had instructed all the District Superintendents of police to prevent sale of cows and calves on September 24, and also set up check-posts on borders of districts to prevent traffic of these animals.

While asking the members of the minority community not to break the law, in a separate meeting with members of Hindu community, the commissioner warned that they must not do policing themselves. Instead they can contact the police at 9490617444 and give information if cows are being transported or sold.

Over 150 Hindu elders and 250 Muslim elders alongwith all the officers of the rank of ACP and above attended the two meetings yesterday, the police release said. The south zone police in Hyderabad city too made an appeal to the Muslim community not to break the law prohibiting slaughter of cows and buffaloes.
