New Delhi: The terms of Chief Secretaries of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (AP) have been extended by another three months. Rajiv Sharma, CS of Telangana and SP Tucker, CS of AP, will continue in their positions till November.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) is expected to release the orders in three days. Sharma, a 1982-batch officer, who was to retire on May 31, will now continue as the Chief Secretary till November 2016. Rajiv Sharma is first CS of Telangna and has been continuing despite his retirement age.

Rajiv Sharma was chosen as the chief secretary by the Chief Minister KCR himself after the formation of Telangana. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao reportedly took up the issue of extending the term of Rajiv Sharma for six months with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Delhi.

However, it’s been extended by three months. Rajiv Sharma was instrumental in drafting of AP Reorganisation Bill, 2014, as he was on central deputation then. Sharma has also played a key role in the bifurcation of state cadre employees between Telangana and AP. Sharma is also monitoring the implementation of flagship programmes of the state government.
