Two Students Drown, 3 Others Missing In Kalingapatnam Beach Mishap

Srikakulam: A beach-outing turned tragic, when two intermediate students drowned, while three of their friends were feared washed away in the Kalingapatnam beach at Gara mandal, Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.

As per reports, a group of six students who were studying second year intermediate in Chaitanya Junior College at Srikakulam, had come for an outing to the Kalingapatnam beach to enjoy the holiday, the police said.

They had gone into the sea and were enjoying themselves. However, they did not realize that they were being pulled deeper into the sea and were caught unaware when a huge wave hit them and were washed away.

Sheikh Abdullah and Anaparthi Sudhir were saved while the other three- Praveen Kumar Reddy, Yajnamaiah Panda and Kurumuri Sandeep are feared missing. Out of these six students, a boy named Lingala Rajasingham had stayed back on the shore and hence was saved.

Marine CI Ambedkar, In-charge SI Simhachalam and local fishermen have started search operations for the missing three boys. District SP Ammi Reddy immediately rushed to the spot and inspected the site. The students talked to Abdullah and Rajasimha and learned about the course of the event.

DSP Murthy, Srikakulam town CI Lalitha, Tahsildar Jenni Rama Rao and Marine SI Jagan were among others who reached the place of accident and are conducting an enquiry as to how the mishap occurred.

Meanwhile there was a pall of gloom at the beach site,as the bodies of the two boys were fished out from the sea. The parents of the missing boys were seen waiting anxiously for news of their children.
