Woman Kills Self Allegedly Over Dowry Harassment In Anakapalle

Anakapalle: A married woman committed suicide by consuming poison allegedly due to harassment by her in-laws at Anakapalle in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, November 10.

According to reports, Divya (22), daughter of Sanyasi Rao, completed diploma in agriculture. She got married to Budha Chaitanya of Gavarapalem of Anakapalle six months ago on May 18, 2019. At the time of the wedding, the victim's family gave Rs four lakh cash and 12 tolas gold as dowry to the groom.

Divya's father alleged that her in-laws harassed her for more dowry, and her daughter was depressed over her life and consumed poison.

Divya was rushed to Anakapalle government and died while undergoing treatment.

Her father has now filed a police complaint against Chaitanya and his parents and a case is booked under relevant provisions of Dowry Act.

Probe is underway.
