Bengaluru: Alliance University chancellor Sudhir G Angur and his associate was arrested on Thursday by Bengaluru City Police in connection with the murder of ex vice-chancellor D Ayyappa Dore.
Police said that Angur along with Surja Singh, an executive who was working in the varsity were arrested from BTM Layout in Bengaluru.
Dore (53) was on an evening walk at HMT grounds, when he was fatally attacked on Tuesday night.
Police said that the duo hatched the conspiracy to kill him and had hired contract killers to kill him. the assailants had allegedly planned to kill Sudhir Angur's brother and founder of the university Madhukar Angur too, police told a news agency.
During inquiry, it was found that one of Sudhir Angur's associates advised him to eliminate Dore and his brother Madhukar to gain control over the university as the duo was obstructing his ascension, police said.
Alliance university is one of the oldest private institutes established in Benagluru.
The university has been at the centre of a family fight over control of its management with Angur brothers levelling serious allegations and plotting coup to remove each other from the institution.
Students suffered as the family feud lead to the closure of the institution for weeks and later postponed in 2016. The government had to later intervene to come to the rescue of the students.
