Hyderabad: A student took his life in Borabanda here unable to repay the amount that he borrowed from a friend to bet on a cricket match. Police said that the they found a suicide note allegedly written by him that had this reason cited.
Ravi, a 21-year-old BSc final year student, took his life on August 4 by hanging himself.
"On August 4, a 21-year-old BSc final year student Ravi committed suicide by hanging himself to death. Upon receiving the information, we shifted his body to the government hospital for the postmortem. Subsequently, a case has been registered under Section 174 of CrPC and we took up investigation," Murli Krishna, Circle Inspector of SR Nagar police station was quoted saying by a news agency.
Police found the suicide note where Ravi wrote he had taken Rs 40,000 for the bet which he could not pay off.
"Today, we have found a suicide note written by Ravi. The note revealed that he had placed a bet of Rs. 40,000 on a cricket match which he lost. His friend was continuously asking him to return the money," police said.
A case has been registered under Section 174 of CrPC and probe is underway.
Police have also launched a manhunt to nab Ravi's friend.
In another incident in Uttar Pradesh's Jafarabad district, a man addicted to alcohol and gambling, used his wife as a bet. He lost, and his friends with whom he had been playing gang-raped her.
According to the victim, her husband, an alcoholic, had been gambling and after using everything he had, finally used her as a bet. He regularly consumed liquor and indulged in gambling with his friend, Arun and relative, Anil. After he lost his wife in a bet, his friends gang-raped her and her husband, abetted in the heinous crime.
Ordered by the court to register an FIR, Jafarabad police have launched a probe into the matter.
