Srikakulam: Fight Over Water At Public Tap Leads To Death Of A Woman

Srikakulam: A woman was killed during a clash between two groups of women at a public tap in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

Some women allegedly attacked Tathapudi Padma (36) as a resident of Palli Veedhi area in Sompeta. with steel pots over collecting water from the tap.

Quoting eyewitnesses SI K Venkatesh said that said trouble started when a woman broke the queue at the tap on Monday morning around 6.30 am, which was being supplied as part of the water distribution system in the district.

The victim, Padma, was waiting for her turn along with her mother T Easwaramma. She raised an objection when a woman named Sundaramma from the same street put her water pot in front of her mother's, even though she came late. This led to an altercation and Sundaramma left. It was only after she got know that she was being abused by Padma, she came with a few more friends and attacked Padma with empty pots. Padma sustained head injuries and died on the spot.

Padma has two children and the entire colony is in a state of shock over this tragic incident. Padma's husband Prasad has filed a case under Section 304 Subsection 2 of the IPC in Sompeta police station. The police have detained Sundaramma and are conducting investigations.
