In an atrocious incident that has come to light, a 47-year-old man was arrested in Dehradun for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter for a period of one year.

After being alerted by the members of the child welfare committee (CWC), the police rescued the victim on Saturday and arrested the accused.

According to the police, the victim is a student of Class X and resided in an area of Dehradun with her youngster sister and father. Their mother passed away five years ago. However, her father raped her in the house a year ago and threatened her from revealing the incident to anyone. The ordeal continued as the accused continued to assault her for more than a year. He even gave her birth-control pills to prevent pregnancy. Although afraid of the consequences, she would have to face, the girl informed one of her school teachers which led to the incident coming to the notice of an official of Tehri Garhwal district administration.

Immediately, the official informed the CWC and the local police station was alerted. Both the girls were rescued and the accused was caught on Saturday. The girl underwent a medical examination for which the reports are awaited.

The girl narrated the entire ordeal during the counseling before the concerned authorities. Now, the girls have been shifted to a girls’ shelter home in the city. The accused was produced before the court and later sent to prison on Monday.
