Air India Pilot Accused Of Shoplifting At Sydney Airport, Suspended

New Delhi: A pilot named Rohit Bhasin has been suspended for allegedly stealing a wallet at a duty-free store in Sydney airport in Australia, Air India has said. Rohit is one of the pilots of the AI-301 flight travelling from Sydney to New Delhi. He is also working as the Regional Director of Air India. Officials say Rohit committed the theft before the plane departed Sydney on the morning of the 22nd of this month.

Air India has instituted an inquiry and has placed the captain under suspension without pay.

According to the officials, "Rohit was reported to have stolen a wallet from a shop at the airport. We have been ordered to investigate the incident. Rohit has been suspended. He has also been instructed not to enter the premises of Air India Limited without permission from the management."

It is learned that Rohit was given a suspension order at the airport when the plane landed in Delhi. He was also ordered to hand over the identification card to the authorities and not leave his residence in Kolkata without an official's written consent.
