Telangana Woman Dupes TV Artists After Impersonating Producer On Facebook

Hyderabad: A woman has been arrested by Cyber Crime police in Rachakonda on Saturday for allegedly making fake Facebook accounts under the name of a private TV channel's producer and collecting money from amateur artists. A mobile phone was recovered from her.

According to Rachakonda Cyber Crime ACP Haranath, Y Sreelatha alias Sridevi alias Sushmita alias Sushmita of Vayalapadu in Chintapatri of Chittoor district resided in Attur village in Bangalore.

Sreelatha, who regularly watches television serials on a daily basis, made herself popular among the Telugu TV artists. After watching a Telugu serial in July 2018 with the name of Sridevi Tummala as producer and director, she got an idea to create a Facebook account in that name. With an intention of making easy money, Sridevi Tummala opened a page with a fake Facebook ID to increase followers on social media.

She contacted the TV and movie artists using this Facebook ID. Claiming to give them an opportunity to act in serials, she took money from the aspirants, who wanted to be television of movie artists and led a luxurious life with the money.

Taking the impersonation further, Sreelatha even went on to send requests to TV artists Nishama, Sirisha, Karuna and others. She interacted with them regularly pretending to be the actual producer Sridevi Tummala.

According to the police, Sreelatha asked the aspirants to deposit money through bank transfer.

As per the details, she lured artist Vamshi by promising an opportunity to star in a television serial in September 2018 and made him deposit an amount of Rs 50,000 to her bank account and cheated another man from whom she collected Rs 6 lakh.

She cheated one Kranthi Kumar of Manikonda by sending him pictures of some other woman on Facebook and developed a close friendship with him. Having realized that Kranti Kumar fell in love with her, Sreelatha made him pay an amount of Rs. 6 lakh in her bank account on different occasions.

Also, she was reportedly arrested by the Hyderabad Cyber Crime police in March 2017 for allegedly committing a matrimonial fraud.

With these incidents coming to the notice of producer Sridevi Tummala, she filed a complaint filed with the Cyber Crime Police in Rachakonda for impersonating her and cheating many under the pretext. A case was registered in this regard and the accused has been arrested.
