A 21-year-old girl was walking down Kolkata's survey park area close to 11pm on Tuesday night when a 28-year-old, identified as Subodh Sharma allegedly came riding his bike and made lewd gestures at the girl, It is learnt that Sharma then turned back and touched the girl in an inappropriate fashion and shouted obscene words at her.

However, the girl, showing remarkable presence of mind grabbed his right hand and tugged hard at a helmet which was strapped to the rear of the bike.

As soon as Sharma impulsively hit the brakes, the girl jumped on to his bike and caught him unawares. The 21-year-old, apart from being a final year English honours student is also a mountaineer. Her presence of mind did not end there. Sitting behind him, she shut his eyes with both her hands even as Sharma started to bite them screaming in pain as her hands began to bleed. She drew the attention of bystanders who quickly overpowered the accused and handed him over to the police.

Subodh Sharma works at a family business and is now being investigated by the Kolkata police. The survey park area has now come under the scanner of the city cops as such incidents have been reported frequently from this area. Police have decided to strengthen patrolling in the locality.
