3 people dead, 2 injured following St Louis shooting

St Louis: St Louis Police say five people have been shot, including three who have died, following a shooting on the city's north side.

Authorities say the shooting happened just before 9 pm Monday in the 4000 block of Shreve.

Police said one victim is in critical condition, while another is in serious but stable condition.

No further information was immediately available. (AP)

Woman poisons 3 children, kills self in Muzaffarnagar; boy died, two girls critical

Muzaffarnagar: A 35-year-old woman allegedly poisoned her three children, and herself over a family dispute at Kidwai Nagar in the district, police said Tuesday.

According to SHO Anil Kaperwan, the woman and her nine-year-old son died while her two daughters, aged six and 10, were rushed to a hospital in a serious condition on Monday night.

The woman first gave poison to her children and then herself took it, he said. PTI

Three killed as wall collapses in Jodhpur

Jodhpur: Three members of a family were killed while another was injured when the wall of an under-construction house collapsed following a dust storm here, officials said Tuesday.

District Magistrate Prakash Rajpurohit said the three were sleeping on the terrace of their house when the incident occurred on Monday night.

"The wall of the adjacent house, which was under construction, collapsed due to dust storm and the debris fell on the family," said Rajpurohit.

Those killed have been identified as Naini Devi (50), her son Vinod (23) and daughter-in-law Komal (25). Komal was pregnant.

All succumbed to injuries at a hospital.

Another family member was injured and has been admitted to a hospital. PTI

Five dead, one missing in floatplanes collision in Alaska

Washington: Five people died and one person was missing Monday after two floatplanes collided mid-air in Alaska while carrying passengers from a cruise ship's sightseeing expedition, officials said.

The two aircraft - a Beaver floatplane and an Otter floatplane - had been carrying 16 passengers from the Royal Princess cruise ship when they crashed near Ketchikan around 1:00 pm (local time), Princess Cruises said in a statement circulated by US media.

The dead included four passengers and a pilot, according to Princess Cruises. Ten people were rescued and were receiving medical care.

The US Coast Guard said three people were confirmed dead and that it was searching for three others near George Inlet, along with help from partner agencies - including the US Forest Service and Alaska state troopers - and good Samaritans.

Helicopters and boats were deployed by the Coast Guard for the search-and-rescue operation.

"In a remote area such as this, given our limited resources, we rely on our partner agencies and appreciate the support that good Samaritans have rendered to this point," said Captain Stephen White, Coast Guard Sector Juneau commander.

"With the loss of life in this case, we know that the impact to Alaska is immense and our thoughts are with the community here." The National Transportation Safety Board said it was launching a "Go Team" to investigate the cause of the accident. (AFP)

Woman ends her life after parents disapprove of love affair

Muzaffarnagar: A 26-year-old Dalit woman committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her residence in Shivpuri village here, said police Tuesday.

Police said she took the extreme step on Monday after her parents disapproved of her relationship with a boy from other caste. PTI

Woman raped at hospital in Mumbai, one held

Mumbai: A 37-year-old woman was allegedly raped at a civic-run hospital here by a man on the pretext of helping her fill a fee concession form, a police official said on Tuesday.

The accused, Deepak Annappa Kunchukurve, 31, a resident of Dharavi area here, has been arrested, he said.

The alleged incident took place last Friday on the fifth floor of the Sion Hospital building, he said.

While the victim, a housewife, was taking care of her sister hospitalised at the facility, the accused, who had come there for some work, struck a conversation with her and asked her to fill the form for seeking concession in medical bills, he said.

When the victim told him that she was unaware of any such form, the accused took her to the building's fifth floor on the pretext of showing her the counter concerned.

He allegedly raped her at an isolated staircase there and then fled, Sion police station's inspector Sanjay Popalghat said.

Based on the victim's complaint, the police filed an FIR and after checking the CCTV footage of the hospital, they nabbed the accused on Saturday, he said.

The accused was booked under Indian Penal Code Section 376 (rape), he said, adding that a probe was underway. PTI
