Machilipatnam: In wake of the rising cases of cheating and desertion of women, with the promise of love and marriage in the state of Andhra Pradesh, another such case was reported in Machilipatnam on Sunday.

A married woman named Manne Madhavi filed a case against Yerramsetti Sivaprasad and his family members in the police station for being cheated.

According to the police, Madhavi had left her husband and three children and was staying alone in Vuyyuru. Sivaraprasad an auto driver had met her when he was making a trip to Vijayawada. They started seeing each other and were soon in a live-in relation. They took a house for rent in Godugulapeta and stayed together for six years.

Recently Sivaprasad made plans to marry another girl from Hamsaladivi. Madhavi got wind of his plans and confronted him about it. He confessed that he had plans to marry the other girl.

Madhavi went to the Inugudurupeta police station and sought help from the police officials. She demanded that the police intervene and get her married to Sivaprasad.

Since she hadn't legally divorced her husband, the police informed her that they could not take any action against him. Hearing this she poured petrol on herself and attempted to commit suicide outside the police station on Sunday evening. The police managed to prevent her from committing suicide and assured her of their help.

They registered a cheating case against Sivaprasad, his parents and his brother and produced them before the court. The police then sent Madhavi to the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) authority for counselling.
