Hyderabad: A case has been registered against a former judge, who served at the Hyderabad and Madras High Courts on the charges of dowry harassment. Going into details, the complaint, Sindhu Sharma (30) is the daughter-in-law of Justice Nooty Ramamohana Rao. She approached the Central Crime Station in Hyderabad and stated that Mr Rao along with his ife, Nooty Durga Jaya Laxmi and their son, Nooty Vasista repeatedly harassed her for dowry and also physically assaulted her.

Ramamohana Rao served as a senior judge, who was transferred from the Hyderabad High Court in 2016 and served at the Madurai bench of the HC for a brief period. He retired in August 2017 while serving at the Madras HC.

The couple got married in 2012 and have two children. The complainant shared that since the beginning of the marriage, the harassment for dowry took place but the harassment increased over the last two years with the family resorting to physical violence. On April 20, Sindhu was allegedly assaulted to an extent that she had to be admitted to a hospital. The doctors at the hospital noticed her injuries and insisted on a medico-legal case (MLC).

After regaining consciousness, the victim called her parents and also gave her statement to the police. She is currently staying at her parents' house in Uppal where she is currently recovering.

A case has been registered under IPC sections 6 of the Dowry Prevention Act, 323 (Voluntarily causing hurt), 406 (Criminal breach of trust) and 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) against the accused.
