Asaram Bapu’s Son Narayan Sai Convicted In Rape Case

Ahmedabad: The sessions court in Surat court convicted Narayan Sai, son of jailed self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, in a rape case on Friday. The session's court at Surat, in Gujarat which convicted Narayan Sai, will pronounce the sentence on April 30.

In 2013, two Surat-based sisters approached the police alleging they were raped by Asaram Bapu and his son Narayan Sai. One of them had accused Narayan Sai of repeatedly raping her between 2002 and 2005 when she was living at his ashram.

Narayan Sai was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including rape, unnatural sex, molestation, wrongful confinement, unlawful assembly, rioting armed with deadly weapon, criminal intimidation, and criminal conspiracy.

The victim’s elder sister had earlier levelled charges of repeated sexual assault against his father Asaram Bapu between 1997 and 2006 when she was living at his ashram near Ahmedabad. The self-styled godman and four others had been awarded life imprisonment of 20 years by a special court in Jodhpur last year in April. Asaram Bapu was held guilty of raping the victim who was a teenager then .
