Woman Kills Infant Daughter, Survives Suicide Bid In Jeedimetla

Hyderabad: In a gruesome incident, a woman allegedly slit her 13-month-old toddler's throat in Jeedimetla in the early hours of Tuesday. The woman, identified as Susheela, later attempted suicide by slitting her throat and survived.

The police informed that the woman was admitted to a hospital for treatment and is currently in a stable condition. As per the details, the woman decided to end her life as she was unable to bear the alleged harassment by her husband who suspected infidelity.

Susheela was married to Narayana Reddy, an employee in a fabrication workshop two years ago and the couple has a daughter, Deeksha. Both natives of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, the couple shifted to Hyderabad three months ago.

The couple is learned to have gotten into a heated argument on Monday night. Susheela took Deeksha into the bathroom around 3 am on Tuesday and slit the baby's throat with a knife. She later slit her throat as well.

Hearing the baby's wailing, Narayana and his neighbours rushed to their rescue. They broke open the door and immediately shifted them to the Mallareddy hospital. However, the baby was declared brought dead at the hospital while Susheela is being treated.

Susheela gave a statement to the police saying that she was unable to bear her husband's harassment and wanted to end her life and that of the child.

The police registered two cases for investigation. A case has been booked against Susheela on the charges of murder and another case against her husband for domestic violence. No arrests have been made yet in connection with the case.
