Hyderabad: Over 1,000 kg of ganja worth Rs 1.68 crore allegedly being smuggled from Andhra Pradesh to Maharashtra in a truck was seized and three people were arrested, directorate of revenue intelligence said on Thursday. The 1,121 kg of the cannabis was being smuggled from Sileru in the state of Andhra Pradesh to Sholapur in Maharashtra.
The drug and the vehicle were seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, it said adding that three people were arrested. The lorry carrying the narcotic concealed under bricks was intercepted on by the DRI sleuths acting on a tip off. The officials intercepted the truck at Panthangi Toll Plaza on Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway.
After searching the vehicle, officials found 546 high-density polyethylene (HDPE) packages wrapped with polypropylene (BOPP) self-adhesive tape, weighing more than a ton with Ganja in it . (With Inputs fromPTI)
