Bengaluru: A 60-year-old man was arrested here for allegedly running a lucky draw scheme and duping people over two years.

The accused identified as Suhail Khan is a resident of KG Halli, east Bengaluru.

Cybercrime police said that on March 21, a chief postmaster general of Karnataka circle lodged a complaint alleging that sham companies, operating under names SK World and A1 Marketing, were using the postal department's name to obtain money from people illegally.

The official said the miscreants were calling people and would tell them that they would win a cellphone in a lucky draw. For the purpose, they would have to pay the money through post-office.

Acting on a tip-off, the police found out that Khan would visit the post-office near Arabic college near KG Halli and collect the money. On Wednesday, police in plain clothes arrived at the spot and arrested him.

Upon preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that he had hired 20-25 telecallers to lure people. He would send out 200 parcels in a day. But instead of receiving the cellphones, they would instead get puja stationaries or household items in the box.

While searching his office, sleuths had seized puja materials worth Rs 28 lakh from his godown.
